Reaction | Hudson on Allianz Cup defeat

Leicester Tigers senior coach, Tom Hudson, has reacted to Sunday’s defeat to Trailfinders Women in the 7th place play-off of the 23/24 Allianz Cup.

Tigers went into the contest 14 - 5 down at half time but the hosts ran rampant in the second half, with six tries, three either side of a yellow card for Roisin McBrien, to finish the contest 54 - 5 winners.

"We're obviously disappointed with that final score, it's not reflective of the players that took to the field or the application they have shown in training over the last number of weeks" Hudson began.

"This is the third time we've faced Trailfinders this season and they brought exactly what we thought they would: tremendous physicality in the pack and in the carry and buckets of pace out wide to punish you if you get sucked in.

"Unfortunately, we just couldn't match that this afternoon and we've suffered as a result. It's always going to be difficult going down to 14 players but the simple fact is that we've lost to the better side today."

Asked about what positives we would look to take forward from the game, Hudson replied "It's difficult to focus on the positives right now. That being said, some of our attacking interplay in the first half was solid and the can't fault the effort levels of the girls.

"We now have three weeks to regroup and prepare for the return of Allianz Premiership Women's Rugby. Our overriding goal for the remainder of the season is finishing as high as possible in the PWR and securing a first Premiership home win in our final game at Mattioli Woods Welford Road (May 25, v Sale Sharks).

"Additionally, I'd like to congratulate Stef Evans on her first Leicester Tigers appearance as well as Tanya Bird and Zoe Warrington for reaching twenty caps for the club."
